Synopsis

Charles Dickens' Great Expectations tells the story of Pip, an English orphan who rises to wealth, deserts his true friends, and becomes humbled by his own arrogance. It also introduces one of the more colorful characters in literature: Miss Havisham. 

Dickens set Great Expectations during the time that England was becoming a wealthy world power. Machines were making factories more productive, yet people lived in awful conditions. Naïve Pip, creepy Miss Haversham, beautifully cold Estella, terrifying Abel Magwitch and the rest of Dicken's fantastic cast are perfectly envisioned in Crystal Chan's new adaptation featuring artwork by artist Nokman Poon.

Dickens estabeleceu grandes expectativas durante o tempo em que a Inglaterra estava se tornando uma potência mundial rica. As máquinas tornavam as fábricas mais produtivas, mas as pessoas viviam em condições terríveis. Ingênuo Pip, assutadora Srta Haversham, a lindamente fria Estella , o terrível Abel Magwitch e um elenco fantástico Dicken são perfeitamente retratados na nova adaptação de Crystal Chan, com obras de arte do artista Nokman Poon.

Nessa intrigante história sobre as muitas facetas da crueldade humana, conheci Pip, garoto bom que foi criado por uma irmã malvada e pelo cunhado bondoso . Pip não entende porque seu cunhado mesmo sendo novo e podendo mudar de vida, preferiu viver sem ambições e se entregando ao trabalho a que foi treinado a fazer. Cercado por pessoas interesseiras ,ele percebe a nobreza da alma do cunhado  e tem muito carinho por ele.

Porem num dado momento é levado para a casa da Srta Havisham a pedido dela e é ai que começa sua odisseia . Ele fica fascinado pela filha adotiva da mulher, Estella, e tenta de todas as formas ser um cavalheiro para chamar a atenção da garota que sempre que pode é fria e má com ele.

Graças a um benfeitor desconhecido, ele conquista tudo que sonhou e muda de vida, fugindo da pobreza e dor de seu passado e abandonando todos que gostavam dele.

O jovem cavalheiro Phillip é bem diferente do garoto ingênuo Pip e aos poucos ele mesmo vai percebendo e tendo que enfrentar as consequências de suas escolhas  .

O livro de Charles Dickens é um dos grandes clássicos de todos os tempos que tanto o escritor que adaptou a obra para o mangá quanto o desenhista conseguiram retratar muito bem. Consegui viver todas as emoções que brotavam dos gráficos e perceber as características marcantes de cada personagem.

Uma pena para mim ,o roteirista ter escolhido o primeiro final escrito por Charles Dickens, pois o livro que tenho  optou por este mesmo encerramento e eu queria conhecer o final alternativo que ele escreveu para agradar ao público.

A capa também está fantástica, rica em elementos  que atraem para a leitura.

Review

In this intriguing story about the many facets of human cruelty, I met Pip, a good boy who was raised by an evil sister and his kindly brother-in-law. Pip does not understand why his brother-in-law preferred to live without ambition and indulge in the work he was trained to do , even though he was young and could change his life,. Surrounded by self-interested people, Pip realizes the nobility of his brother-in-law's soul and has a lot of affection for him.

But at a certain point he is taken to Miss Havisham's house at her request and it is when his odyssey begins. He is fascinated by the woman's adopted daughter, Estella, and tries in all ways to be a gentleman to get the girl's attention even if the girl whenever she can, she is cold and bad with him.

Thanks to an unfamiliar benefactor, he conquers all that he dreamed and changes his life, escaping the poverty and pain of his past and abandoning everyone who liked him.

The young gentleman Phillip is quite different from the naive boy Pip and little by little he himself realizes and has to face the consequences of his choices.

Charles Dickens' book is one of the great classics of all time that both the writer who adapted the book for  manga and the mangaká have managed to portray very well. I was able to live all the emotions that flowed from the graphics and see clearly the personality of each character.

A pity for me, the writer has chosen the first final written by Charles Dickens because the book I have opted for this same closure and I wanted to know the alternate end he wrote to please the public.

The cover is also fantastic, rich in elements that draw for reading.
